From JFK or La Guardia airports:

Taxi:

ONLY take the “famous” NYC YELLOW TAXI with a meter-they are regulated. Do not take any other unsolicited cars or taxis- sometimes they will overcharge you. Give the driver the address (5-46 50th Avenue), and tell him it is between Vernon Boulevard and 5th Street. We are directly across the street from the Police Station. The fare from JFK should be about $40.00-$45.00, plus a 15% tip.Be sure to bring a printed copy of the directions for the driver. Some drivers do not know the streets in Queens! Please note that both Yellow cabs and Uber will go to Long Island City, as it is a part of New York City.

AirTrain (the Subway) from JFK:

This is the cheapest option! If you have light baggage you might consider this option: Take the fast Airtrain and the subway into the city like a NY'er. Its only costs $7.25. From JFK take the AIrTrain to the Sutphin Boulevard Station for the E subway line. Take the E train to the Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Avenue stop. Change for a Manhattan bound 7 subway train. Get off at the Vernon Boulevard/Jackson Avenue stop. You will be at the corner of Vernon Blvd and 50th Avenue, one minute from the building. There is one flight of stairs at this last station to exit.

Private car services:

This is the most expensive option. If you wish to take a private car from any of the airports you should reserve it in on line in advance with a taxi service such as Carmel Car It should be a set price from the airport plus any waiting time for the driver; the driver will meet you in the arrival hall after you get your luggage.

From Newark airport in New Jersey:

Our recommendation: Take the Newark Airport Express Bus to Port Authority Bus Station in Manhattan. We do not recommend taking the train from Newark Airport as it is slow and you have to change trains a few times.

Once at Port Authority, you have a choice depending on whether you have a lot of luggage.

TAXI OR DRIVING FROM MANHATTAN: Take the Midtown Tunnel, be sure the taxi is in the RIGHT lane through the or you will miss the turn. Immediately out of the tunnel, bear to the right, then take a right onto Borden Avenue. Go through one light and then turn right on 5th street and then right on 50th Avenue. The building is on the RIGHT, 5-46 - a red door. We are directly across the street from the Police Station. You can park temporarily right in front of our building if there is a spot - disregard the “Police-no parking signs”. OR There are a lot of meters on Jackson Ave. From Jackson walk on 50th Ave 1 block towards Manhattan, cross Vernon Blvd, and the building is on the left. We are directly across the street from the Police Station.

SUBWAY: Go inside the station and downstairs to the subway. Take the 7 subway train to first stop in Queens, Vernon Boulevard/Jackson Avenue. Exit towards the back of the train. Take first stairway on right. You will be at the corner of Vernon Blvd and 50th Avenue. Make a left on to 50th Avenue, the building is on the left, 5-46. We are directly across the street from the Police Station.

You usually will not be able to get the regular yellow NYC taxis in New Jersey. There are metered New Jersey taxis, but they will be expensive. Uber may be a possibility, but still expensive. Do not take any unsolicited cars or taxis - sometimes they will overcharge you. Be sure to bring a printed copy of the directions for the driver. Some drivers do not know the streets in Queens! Sorry!
